Pray for the Release of the Korean Hostages

On 19 July 2007, 23 Korean Christians participating in a short-term mission were held hostage by Taliban militants in Afghanistan. One hostage was executed. Taliban remained firm in their position and issued various deadlines demanding the release of other Taliban militants imprisoned by the Afghanistan government, or they would kill all the hostages.

Beginning July 27, we placed prayers in the local newspaper on three different days and used "Only God is Salvation" as our theme. We used Job 5:15 and prayed for the hostages. "God saves the needy from the sword in their mouth; he saves them from the clutches of the powerful." This enabled tens of thousands of news readers and the brothers and sisters in the All Nations Prayer Net to pray for the hostage incident. Later on another Korean hostage was killed. The second prayer was published on August 2. Although two female hostages were released afterwards, we continued to pray for the release of the remaining hostages. The third prayer was published on August 15. Consequently, there was a breakthrough in the development as Taliban offered to release all the remaining hostages. On August 31, the Korean hostages finally left Afghanistan and safely returned to South Korea on September 2.

In this incident, we believe that Christians around the world, particularly the churches in Korea, have been praying earnestly. We would like to thank God for enabling the believers in Hong Kong to have a part in this, and that the hostages were released at last.
