May the Lord Quiet down the Wave of Influenza

In March, Hong Kong entered the peak of its flu season. A three-year-old girl, a seven-year-old boy and a 21-month-old infant exhibited flu symptoms and died respectively. From March 8 to March 19, Jireh Fund placed a prayer ad on a local newspaper under the section "Every Morning at Eight O'clock, Bless Hong Kong for Five Minutes", and also placed nine prayers on its website, in order to pray and cease the wave of influenza.

At 4pm on March 12, God moved us to pray for those in authority - "may the Lord be sovereign over all those in authority, that they would have wisdom and strategy to handle the crisis, and to take precautionary measures in case of turn of events…" The prayer was e-mailed to the local newspaper at 6pm on the 12th. Then, at 10pm that same evening, the Food and Health Bureau announced class suspension for all primary schools, special education schools, kindergartens and nurseries for the following day, in order to help prevent the spread of influenza. Thanks the Lord for answering our prayer. On March 13, as I pondered on how to pray for the epidemic, I thought about the victims were all children. If we use, "Jesus said, 'Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them' " (Mt. 19:14a) as the theme verse, it might cause misunderstanding among the non-believers as they equate going to Jesus with going to heaven. Going to heaven means passing away from this world. I therefore prayed earnestly and asked the Lord to give His word. The Lord was in my heart and reminded me of the following: "Jesus got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, 'Quiet! Be still!' Then the wind died down and it was completely calm." (Mk. 4:39). We therefore prayed in the following way: "May the Lord order all influenza: 'Quiet! Be still!' (Mk. 4:39b), and that all the influenza will cease its activities as well as any potential mutation."

For the prayers on March 14, March 15, March 17 and March 19, we continued to plead the Lord to command the flu virus: "Quiet! Be still!". Not only did we pray for the flu epidemic in Hong Kong, we also prayed for the flu epidemic in Shenzhen.

For the prayers on March 18 and March 19, we again proclaimed the Lord's word: "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them." (Mt. 19:14a). This enabled all the children to be kept in the glorious light of the Lord, receiving cleansing and protection.

On March 26, the Education Bureau announced that all primary schools, special education schools, kindergartens, and nurseries to resume classes on March 31. During this period, there was no significant increase in the number of flu cases. We would like to thank the Lord for fighting on our behalf in this wave of epidemic.
