His Love Endures Forever

A sister
Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good. His love endures forever.
Give thanks to the God of gods. His love endures forever.
Give thanks to the Lord of lords: His love endures forever.
Give thanks to the Lord of lords: His love endures forever.
(Ps. 136:1-4)

It was a Sunday morning on May 15. I became quite hesitant as I prepared to leave for church. Then the phone rang and it was my elder son calling from the U.K. He told me that he had not slept for four days and experienced various problems, including breathing difficulties, increase in heartbeat, severe headaches, feelings of nervousness, anxiety and panic. He cried out to God for repentance and was willing to leave his life of self-centeredness and offered it to the Lord. He also ceased his many bad habits, including smoking and playing video games. Indeed, over the past seven or more years I have been praying that God would grant him a heart that fears God as well as a life that is dedicated to serve Him. "My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you." could well sum up my son's experience. In the following two weeks, I slept on the couch and waited for my son to call me every night at around 3am. I comforted and encouraged him with the word of God as well as sang hymns and prayed with him. It was around this time that the women's prayer meeting was held which was organized by Jireh Fund. I shared this experience with Mrs. Chan and other sisters and invited them to pray for my son. I was in need of support from these sisters as we earnestly sought God's help with one heart in this experience.

Thank God that my son was able to experience transformation through this incident. He knew that the only way was to wholeheartedly trust in God. He therefore never ceased to read the word of God and this brought calmness in his heart. There were times when his faith began to shake and he grumbled against God. He did not understand why God would not immediately rescue him from his hardships. When he focused on his own situation, he felt as if he were being tortured as time passed by. However, whenever he looked up to God, he realized his sins against God and humbly repented. It had never crossed my mind that he could spend the entire day singing hymns, crying out to God in tears with prayers of praise and thanksgiving. He simply desired the presence of God and did not ask for anything else.

During a time when I prayed for my son, I remembered how Jesus helped deliver a man from demons. The demon later brought along seven other demons that were more evil and entered the life of this individual. As I thought about this, I realized that my son needed to anchor his life on the word of God in order to resist the work of the devil and not to leave a foothold. As I was about to share this with my son, I found that God had already moved him to give up video games and online games. God is a God who does great wonders!

On another evening, my son felt great despair and fear gripped his heart. A voice urged him to commit suicide. When I heard about this "threat", my body was shaking uncontrollably. Knowing that I could not rely on my own strength, I comforted and encouraged him with the word of God. My son truly understood that the only way to be delivered from this fear was to cry out to God. Because he was living overseas at the time, he made a long distance phone call and pleaded me to pray for him the entire night. Next, I engaged in a three-day fast and prayed for him. I also asked other sisters to pray for his conditions. Thank God for His faithfulness as my son began to gradually show improvement.

During a holiday, my son spent a week in his guardian's home. As I prayed with my son over the phone, God gave me a word that served as a reminder for my son. I did not know why at the time, but I soon found that he gave in to temptation and consumed half a cigarette. The second day he consumed three more cigarettes. As he went to bed, his heartbeat rate further increased. He called me and confessed what he did. Thank God for revealing me Psalm 1:1-3 which appears in the "Set Me Free" prayer handbook (II) - "Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat mockers. But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers." God instructed my son to take the correct path. After this experience, he understood that he could not afford to make the mistake again, and put his faith in God and completely submitted to Him.

Three years ago, my son participated in the "Youth and Teenagers' Seed Planting Project" organized by Jireh Fund. He learned about seeking help from God and prayer support from others during difficulties. Thank God for His provision, because when my son was in crisis, he immediately remembered these words. He made long distance phone calls and asked others to pray for him. These intercessors prayed for my son to receive cleansing from God as well as helping him re-commit his life to Jesus.

God's provision was more than I could ask or imagine and He saw the efforts I put into this ordeal. During this time, God prepared a sister to talk to my son for many nights. She encouraged, comforted and prayed for him. This helped relieve some of my burden.

Thank God for His intimate love showed for my family, for He surely responds to those who seek Him. For the deeds he did in my family, I believe He would also do it in other families and youths. Miracles and amazing things would follow us if we seek and rely on God with all our heart. May all glory and praise be unto our God who loves us!
